Here is one inexpensive way to control chalk art soundtracks when you need them to start and stop multiple times during the presentation. While this method does not actually "start and stop" the track, it simulates the same action. There are other systems that will do this using remote controls but the cost can be pretty steep.

1. Buy an iPod and learn how to use it. Here is a link to a free download on this topic: https://thechalkloft.catsboard.com/t19-soundtrack-wizardry-free-download

2. When building a soundtrack, create a playlist in iTunes that looks like this:

    - song/narration
    - silent track
    - song/narration
    - silent track
    (continue as needed)

3. The silent tracks should be plenty long (15-30 minutes long each). Then when a song/narration track finishes playing, a silent track will automatically begin to play. When you need the next song/narration to start you would click the forward button one time (on the iPod) and the next item on the playlist will start playing immediately. I know the drama troupe "Theatre of the Thirsty" uses this technique to play music backgrounds exactly on cue.

4. If you don't want to set up your own sound system, you can always hook your iPod directly into house systems by following these  directions suggested by Ben Glenn - that way the iPod is up on the platform and under your direct control and yet the signal is running through the house system:
