About two years ago I stopped using a drop cloth under my easel and started using carpet mask film. This is the stuff that is used in new RVs to protect the carpeting when customers walk through. Why do I like it?
1. It is easy to lay down - easier than a drop cloth and gaffer/duct tape.
2. It will not slide or shift around - especially on smooth flooring like wood or vinyl.
3. It is easily removed with no gummy residue left behind.
4. After peeling it up simply throw it away - nothing to shake out or wash.
Here is a link to one well know vendor and a picture. If you want to give it a test run, I'd start with the Carpet Mask Poly-Tak 3'x200'.
